The Andalusian Public Foundation El legado andalusí and the Euro-Arab Foundation for High Studies are organizing the conference series Amazigh Jewellery in its Context: Culture and Identity of the Berber Peoples, to be held at the Euro-Arab Foundation’s auditorium in Granada throughout November 2024. The aim of this series is to introduce the public to the Amazigh peoples by exploring their history, identity and traditions, with a particular emphasis on the role of jewellery as a symbol of cultural significance.

Conference Program:

November 14, 6:00 PM: The Magic of Berber Jewellery, presented by Jorge Dezcallar de Mazarredo, former Ambassador of Spain and owner of the collection featured in the exhibition Amazigh Jewellery: Identity of the Berber Peoples. This exhibition, organized by the Andalusian Public Foundation El Legado Andalusí, is currently on display at the temporary exhibition hall of the Corral del Carbón until January.

November 21, 6:00 PM: Shadows and Profiles of Berber Women: Traces in Arabic Sources, presented by Dr. Helena de Felipe Rodríguez, University of Alcalá de Henares, a leading expert on the Berbers of al-Andalus.

November 28, 6:00 PM: Barbarians as Civilizers: The Amazigh and Andalusi Granada, presented by Dr. Bilal Sarr Marroco, from the University of Granada, a specialist in the Amazigh history of Granada.

This conference series seeks to bridge academic research with public interest in the Amazigh peoples and their cultural heritage, contributing to the dissemination of knowledge and the preservation of one of the Western Mediterranean’s oldest traditions.
