The Route, declared as Cultural Itinerary of the Council of Europe, includes 28 municipalities in the Alpujarra region belonging to the provinces of Almeria and Granada.
The Andalusian Public Foundation El legado andalusí has accomplished the signposting of all the municipalities and annex districts that compose the Route of the Alpujarras.
It has been a total of 83 information plates installed. The signposts have been placed in the information points of the towns along the Route. They contain basic information about the location of the municipality and a complete guide for the visitor that can be accessed through QR codes printed on the plates. This guide includes points of interest for the travellers, allowing them to be geolocated thanks to the possibilities mobile devices offer.
This action has been developed within the framework of the European project Best Med (INTERREG MED Programme), co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), with the leadership of El legado andalusí and integrated by partners from Spain, Italy, France, Greece, Portugal, Slovenia, Croatia and Montenegro. The project works to share good practices for sustainable tourism in the Mediterranean.
The Route of the Alpujarras, by El legado andalusí, has been considered by the project partners as a model of Route promoting cultural and sustainable tourism and to be followed as an example of good practices at international level for the diversification of the tourist and sustainable offer.
